12-y-o US boy found with detailed plan to attack school – police.

Police arrested a 12-year-old student at a public charter school near downtown Dallas Thursday after the boy was found with an intricate diagram showing a plan to “shoot up” the school. DALLAS (AP) — A 12-year-old boy is accused of plotting to shoot students and others at his Dallas charter school after he was found clutching a detailed diagram outlining the planned attack, a police commander said. The Dallas Morning-News reported the seventh grader at the Jefferson campus of Trinity Basin Preparatory in North Oak Cliff had allegedly told another 12-year-old student he was planning on bringing a gun and opening fire at the school.

The other student thought he might just be joking until Thursday, when the 12-year-old displayed a written diagram showing how the shooting could be carried out, police said. The suspect was taken to the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center, where he has been charged with violating the education code-exhibition of firearms, a third-degree felony. The school called police. “An average person would see this diagram, and it would cause him grave concern,” said Assistant Dallas Police Chief Randall Blankenbaker, speaking with reporters at a Thursday evening news conference posted on the department’s Web site. “A reasonable person would see this diagram and they would believe that he intended to carry out his threats, based on what’s on the diagram,” he said. Blankenbaker said the 12-year-old was apparently not targeting one student in particular. “The ideal was to shoot up the school, so multiple victims,” he said. School leaders stated that they had planned to inform parents on Friday, and assured that there is no longer any reason to worry. “At no time did we believe, yesterday or any other day, any students or staff members were under any sort of danger,” said Randy Shaffer, school superintendent. “I need to know what’s going on in the school,” added parent Leslie Soto. “If there is something going on that I’m not aware of because nobody informed me, I need to take my child back home.”

A 15-year-old boy was arrested after police say he threatened to open fire at a high school in Forney, east of Dallas, The Dallas Morning News reported. 1. Dallas police said they held an evening press conference on the matter Thursday because they felt it was important to get information out as soon as possible, given the series of school shootings nationally.
