SC State Fair to open at noon Sunday after teen shot Saturday niDeputies responded to a call of shots fired inside the fair around 8:15 p.m. and found a person on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body. Lott also rejected a report of a gang fight Friday at the fair that could have led to a Saturday confrontation. “Preliminary investigations hasn’t revealed that this had anything to do with a gang incident,” Lott said about 9:25 p.m. Goodman would not comment on why the fair was not evacuated immediately after the shooting, but a post on the fair’s official Twitter account said the decision was made “after consultation with Richland County Sheriff’s Dept.” Fair staff required media to leave the grounds after the shooting, and no public announcement was made on the grounds regarding the shooting. According to the Fair General Manager Gary Goodman, the gates were closed Saturday night and no one was allowed to enter the fair when the shooting occurred.

In the wake of that shooting, additional security measures were put in place, including metal detectors that were installed at all general admission gates.
