California officer shot dead in police station lot.

DOWNEY, Calif. (AP) — An officer shot to death while sitting in his car in the parking lot of Downey police headquarters was apparently targeted, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said Thursday. A Downey, Calif. police officer was found fatally shot while sitting inside his personal vehicle in the police station’s parking lot, officials said early Thursday.

The body was found as Downey police conducted a search for a victim or victims of a car-to-car shooting in Downey late Wednesday night, according to broadcast reports. Two male suspects ran toward Officer Ricardo Galvez about 11:08 p.m. as he was seated in driver’s seat of his vehicle at the Downey Police Department station’s west parking lot, said Lt. It’s unclear if authorities are looking for a possible assailant, but a Sheriff’s Department source said a search is underway in Montebello for possible suspects in connection with the investigation.
