13-Year-Old Arrested In Stabbing Death Of Boy, 14, Outside East LA Middle School.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A 13-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder in the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old high school student outside an East Los Angeles middle school. Friends identified Steven Cruz as the boy who was stabbed to death with scissors in front of David Wark Griffith Junior High School at 4765 East Fourth St. (map) around 3 p.m.

The teen had been sitting in a semi-open corridor of the middle school when the suspect, another male juvenile, approached him and stabbed him with an unknown object. “The investigators are just doing interviews now, but we don’t have any indication that there was a fight prior to the stabbing,” Francisco said. “It appears to be an isolated incident.” Shortly after 7 p.m., Monterey Park resident Edith Torres was still waiting outside the school to pick up her daughter. The Los Angeles Unified School District said the victim was not stabbed with scissors, as earlier reported by law enforcement, only confirming it was a sharp object. Homicide detectives say a 13-year-old Hispanic juvenile was taken into custody at his L.A. residence in connection to the stabbing at approximately 1:30 a.m.
