(Reuters) – Donna Shalala, the president of the Clinton Foundation, suffered a stroke on Tuesday evening after an annual meeting in New York, former U.S. Shalala, 74, fell ill after departing the closing events around the Clinton Global Initiative, which was held at the Sheraton New York hotel on Seventh Avenue in Manhattan, according to a statement from foundation officials. It has pledged to review and refile some annual tax returns after reports it failed to disclose millions of dollars in donations from foreign governments while she was secretary of state. Shalala, a close friend to both Clintons, served as secretary of health and human services in the Clinton administration and unlike other cabinet members, was known for her ability to confront and be direct with the former president.
