Aurora theater shooter James Holmes assaulted by another inmate in Colorado State Penitentiary: officials.

Fellow state penitentiary prisoner Mark “Slim” Daniels, 27, threw himself at Holmes and took a few swings at the convicted mass killer earlier this month, Colorado Department of Corrections spokeswoman Adrienne Jacobson told The Denver Post.

Daniels, who is 6-foot-4 and weighs 195 pounds, attacked as a prison guard moved him through the corridor of a day hall where Holmes is allowed to spend four hours per day, corrections officials told the newspaper. Daniels is serving time for multiple convictions that include menacing, auto theft, assault and smuggling contraband into prison, according to the Post.

Holmes, 27, was slapped with a life sentence without parole in August for killing 12 people and injuring 70 others when he opened fire in a suburban Denver movie theater in 2012.
