‘Walking Dead’ fan tells police he killed friend before he could turn into a zombie.

A New Mexico man brutally killed his buddy after binge-watching “The Walking Dead” because he believed his friend had transformed into a zombie, he told cops. Perry was drinking heavily and hanging out with Christopher Paquin in a Grants, New Mexico apartment when he supposedly saw his buddy morph into a ravenous zombie. A drunk Damon Perry used knives, a microwave oven, an electric guitar and his bare hands in Thursday’s grisly slaying of Christopher Paquin, The Daily Beast reported. “It was one of the absolute worst [crime scenes] I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been with the department for 15 years,” Grants, N.M., police department spokesman Moses Marquez told the news website. The pair had been binge-watching episodes of the popular AMC show, which centers on a zombie apocalypse, according to police in the small town of Grants, about 80 miles (130 km) west of Albuquerque.

After attacking Paquin, Perry allegedly exited the apartment where they’d been drinking and ran through the housing complex chasing people with either scissors (according to the Beast) or a knife (according to KOB4). Officers were called to an apartment there last Thursday afternoon after receiving reports that an intoxicated, knife-wielding man was chasing a woman, the police department said. The suspected root of this gruesome murder is more mundane: Binge-drinking. “The suspect [also] attributed it to being highly intoxicated,” Marquez said. (Apparently, some people can get so monstrously drunk that watching a popular TV show can compel them to act out their darkest zombie-apocalypse fantasies.) It is unclear what his blood alcohol content was at the time of the alleged killing.
