Discovery of 2 women’s bodies shatters serenity of Montecito Heights park.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police were on high alert Thursday after the bodies of two young women were found in a popular Los Angeles park with sweeping views of the city. The circumstances surrounding the deaths of the two women remained a mystery Thursday, and regulars have been left to grapple with the little information found in news reports. The bodies were discovered around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, located in the area of Mercury and Boundary avenues near a hiking trail on a brushy hillside in Ernest E. The name and age of the individual was not being released due to a security hold placed on the case by Los Angeles police, and the other person’s identity had not yet been determined, county coroner Assistant Chief Ed Winter said.

Authorities have not indicated whether the women were killed in a murder-suicide or random slayings, and it is unclear how long the bodies had been at the park before they were discovered. We’re worried,” Sandoval said Thursday “It’s very alarming, especially for anybody that’s a runner, a hiker or a walker who uses that park regularly and thinks, ‘Am I in harm’s way now?’ ” A woman walking her dog in the park found the bodies after the pet walked deeper inside and wouldn’t come out. One of the women reported being groped as she walked alone, another reported that a man exposed his genitals to her, while a third said a man armed with a knife punched her and stood over her for several seconds before fleeing.
