Defense Secretary Ash Carter Used Personal Email for Work: Pentagon.

Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said Carter believed it “was a mistake,” adding in a statement that the defense secretary had stopped such use of his personal email. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter used a personal e-mail account to conduct government business long after it was revealed that Hillary Clinton did the same on a home-brew computer server while secretary of state, according to a report on Wednesday. Carter used the personal account for “a portion” of his government business during his first months as Pentagon chief earlier this year, according to The New York Times. The email issue has dogged Clinton’s campaign for the Democratic nomination for president in the November 2016 election and prompted an FBI investigation. The Times had cited an Obama administration official as saying that White House chief of staff Denis McDonough directed the White House Counsel’s Office to ask the Pentagon why Carter was using his own email account when he learned of it in May.

The Secretary has a secure communications team that handles his classified information and provides it to him as necessary.” No personal attacks or insults, no hate speech, no profanity.
