Deputy ambushed, fatally shot at gas station near Houston.

A sheriff’s deputy in uniform died after he was shot multiple times from behind while filling up his patrol car at a suburban Houston gas station on Friday.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Ryan Sullivan said the deputy was pumping gas into his vehicle on Friday night when a man approached him from behind and fired multiple shots. Local and federal officials have launched a manhunt in the Houston area for the suspect in what Hickman described as “an unprovoked, execution-style killing of a police officer.” On Saturday morning, authorities were speaking with a person as part of the investigation, a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman told The Post.

That individual, who may have information about the shooting, is not considered a suspect or a person of interest and the manhunt continues, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas Gilliland told the Associated Press. Police described the suspect as a dark-complexioned male who is believed to be between 20 and 25 years old, and stands about 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall. He was wearing a white T-shirt and red shorts and driving a red or maroon pickup-style truck with an extended cab. “In my 45 years in law enforcement, I can’t recall another incident so cold-blooded and cowardly,” Hickman said, who added no motive had been determined.

An impromptu memorial had begun Saturday morning at the pump with balloons, flowers, candles and notes, including one that said, “Gone but never forgotten R.I.P. The suspect came over and shot the deputy again multiple times as he lay on the ground.” “We are actively searching for suspect right now,” Gilliland said. “I can tell you with diligence and justice the suspect will be caught. Deputy Goforth.” The gas station was open, but the pump Goforth had been using was closed. “He was passionate about what he did,” the 49-year-old said, adding, “We’re still in shock. … It’s a huge loss for his family.
