Man accused of extracting toddler’s teeth.

Following a three-month investigation, Nicholas Kernechel, 27, was arrested on Sept. 17 on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child, FOX29 reported. “The teeth were recovered, they were intact from the root to the edge of the tooth,” Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman told CBS Philly. “They were bloodied. NORRISTOWN >> An East Greenville man physically abused a 4-year-old autistic boy, including forcefully extracting his teeth, while the child was in his care, according to prosecutors. And they have striations on them that would indicate that a tool of some sort was used to remove them from the child’s mouth.” Kernechel was allegedly asked to look after the boy for a few hours in July while the child’s mother was away at work.

When they arrived, the 4-year-old boy had “severe” facial and dental injuries, including an extremely swollen lip and a bloody upper gum line, according to the DA. Kernechel left the boy “in his bed, bleeding and crying and failed to tell his mother about the injuries until she returned to the apartment in the early-morning hours,” police told FOX 29. The investigation determined that the boy had suffered additional injuries dating all the way back to April 2015, including bite marks and other injuries, the DA said. An investigation by Upper Perk Police began on July 19 when the toddler’s mother took her son to the police station to report the alleged child abuse. “At the time of her arrival (the mother) was hysterical and immediately handed Corporal James Lavin a clear, plastic bag containing three bloody teeth.

What we surmise is that the little boy wasn’t doing exactly what this defendant expected or wanted him to do and it was a reaction that was purely in anger,” Ferman alleged. Kernechel allegedly claimed he realized the child’s mouth and nose were bleeding but that he decided to put the boy back into bed and closed the bedroom door and that the child cried for about five minutes after that. During the investigation, authorities uncovered an April 14 photo of the child that showed what appeared to be a bite mark on his right upper arm and a May 26 photo that showed a bruise on the left side of his head and cheek area, according to court papers.
