Fire Officials: 4 Dead in Massachusetts House Fire.

LYNN – Three women and a man were killed early Friday when a powerful fire consumed a three-family home, forcing Lynn firefighters to abandon rescue efforts after entering the burning residence twice to rescue two women, according to fire and law enforcement officials. “I said, ‘Fire! A spokeswoman for the state Fire Marshal’s office confirmed that the victims were found early Friday morning in a second-floor unit of the multi-family building in Lynn, about 10 miles northeast of Boston. Everybody out!’ ” Rodridguez said, wearing only flipflops and a light jacket in the December morning with her 7-year-old granddaughter, Leomarys, at her side. According to broadcast reports, two women — one age 18, one on her 60s — were pulled from the building unconscious but were revived on the way to the hospital.

Alerted by residents who managed to escape, Lynn firefighters forced their way into the building and onto the second floor, where they rescued one woman, then rescued another before they were driven out of the building. “They went onto the second floor with heavy fire around them and were able to get them,’’ Coan said. “They were able to get into the building, then they did pull back because of the heavy volume of fire.’’ Muniz said he was awakened to the sound of people screaming in terror and to the rumble of fire truck engines as firefighters worked to bring the fire under control. Coan said the two women were initially taken to local hospitals but have since been transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for treatment.
