Fire Spreads to Multiple Townhouses in Columbia.

WNEW’s Bill Rehkopf is at the scene of the fire and spoke with a couple who witnessed the explosion. Fire engulfed a Columbia townhouse and spread to several adjacent homes Wednesday night after Howard County fire officials received reports of an explosion, officials said. Fire officials declared a three-alarm response to the fire in the 12000 block of Sleepy Horse Lane about 8 p.m., after 911 callers reported hearing an explosion prior to the fire, officials said on Twitter.

And at least one person was reported to be injured. “It sounded like a bomb going off,” said a 68-year-old neighbor, who lives across the street. “Our front doors were blown in, the windows were blown in and it blew everything off our walls.” According to local resident Andrea Gershman, “The explosion was so loud… I fell on the ground.” Gershman’s relative Ira elaborates, “We were 10,12 feet from it It was unbelievable.
