Donald Trump kicks Univision’s Jorge Ramos out of press event.

In video captured on CNN, the Univision anchor appeared to stand up and ask a question to the GOP front-runner without being called on. During a press conference in Iowa Tuesday, Donald Trump and Univision anchor Jorge Ramos got into a stand off that resulted in Trump telling the Hispanic reporter to “go back to Univision” before Ramos was thrown out of the press conference by a security guard.DUBUQUE, Iowa — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump had an extended argument with the news anchor from a Hispanic television network, after he initially had the anchor escorted from a news conference. Trump had a member of his security detail remove Jorge Ramos, the Miami-based anchor for Univision, from the conference room after Ramos stood up and began asking pointed questions about the billionaire’s immigration proposal.

Trump to sit down for an in-depth interview with Jorge to talk about the specifics of his proposals,” Isaac Lee, Fusion CEO and president of news for Univision, said in a statement The Noticiero Univision anchor — who also hosts Al Punto and the English-language America with Jorge Ramos on Fusion — spoke to CNN Monday night about Trump’s immigration policies, calling them “absurd” and saying his views are “spreading hate.” It wasn’t the first time Ramos has spoken out against Trump’s views on immigration. “Right now Donald Trump is, no question, the loudest voice of intolerance, hatred and devision in the United States,” he said on America with Jorge Ramos last week. Trump has proposed ending birthright citizenship, a constitutionally protected right that declares that children born in the U.S. are automatically citizens.

Back in June, Trump filed a $500 million lawsuit against Univision after the Spanish-language network dropped its coverage of the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants. Whoever security is escorted him out.” Trump added “Somebody just walked him out, I don’t know where he is, I don’t even mind if he comes back, frankly… He’s obviously a very emotional person.” About ten minutes later, Ramos was allowed back into the room, and again challenged Trump on his immigration policy, saying “Your immigration plan is full of empty promises. Univision announced that it would not air the pageants, which are partially owned by Trump, due to derogatory comments he made about immigrants when he was announcing his candidacy for president in June. Trump was influenced solely by our responsibility to speak up for the community we serve.” As for Trump’s relationship with Ramos, CNN reports that the anchor was ultimately allowed back inside the news conference after a ten minute delay. No, no, some of the greatest legal scholars, and I know some of those television scholars agree with you,” he told Ramos as they disputed birth citizenship.

The exchange between journalist and real estate mogul was so tense partly because it centered on one of the most controversial planks of Trump’s candidacy, his immigration platform. Ramos has been a persistent critic of Trump, questioning the Republican candidate’s scanty immigration white paper and the expense and chaos that deporting 11 million undocumented immigrants might cause.
