Four Killed in Medical Helicopter Crash in Bakersfiesld, California.

Four people were killed after a medical helicopter crashed while flying to a hospital in California Thursday night, a Kern County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said. The SkyLife helicopter was traveling from Fresno to San Joaquin Community Hospital in Bakersfield — a 10-minute flight — and a search was started at 7:37 p.m. after there was no contact with the aircraft for 30 minutes, NBC affiliate KGET reported. Additionally, SkyLife utilizes a King Air airplane (fixed wing air ambulance) for long distance hospital-to-hospital transfers during inclement weather.

SkyLife is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) and aircraft are operated under Roger’s Helicopters FAA Part 135 Air Carrier Certificate. Medical helicopters are part of a team dedicated to provide that extra measure of support when it is needed most, when life is dependent upon quick, effective medical response.
