Four killed and dozens hurt in US school bus collision.

A school bus carrying international students collided with a tour vehicle in the US West Coast city of Seattle Thursday, killing at least four people and injuring dozens of others, officials said.Witnesses described hearing a loud screech and then seeing injured people lying on the pavement or wandering around in a daze after the crash on the Aurora Bridge in Seattle, Washington.Four foreign students have died in a horrific crash on a Seattle bridge between a “duck boat” tour vehicle and the charter bus taking them to a college orientation event. Images of the accident on a busy bridge showed extensive damage to the left side of the bus, part of which was completely sheared off by the force of the crash.

There were around 40 tourists on the duck boat, operated by tour company Ride the Ducks, many of whom were snapping photographs when they were thrown from the vehicle. Melissa Mixon, spokeswoman for North Seattle College, told AFP that 45 students and staff with the school’s international program were on board the bus. One of the hospitals that accepted victims said four male Japanese students were treated but not seriously injured, according to Japan’s public broadcaster NHK.

Witnesses said the tour vehicle appeared to have something wrong with its front left tire as it swerved and hit an SUV before crashing into the school bus coming the opposite way. Brad Volm, of Philadelphia, said the amphibious vehicle swerved in front of him and its left front tyre appeared to lock up, sending the vehicle into the oncoming charter bus. Two Hungarian students – 16-year-old Dora Schwendtner and 20-year-old Szabolcs Prem, visiting the US through a church exchange programme – never resurfaced.
