Police: Gunman takes his own life after shooting at Iowa businesses.

Police in eastern Iowa said a gunman fatally shot himself near a prosthetic device factory shortly after they received calls of a shooter nearby, next to a Marine recruiting center. The man took his own life just after a man matching his description fired shots a few miles away at a law firm inside of a building holding it and a military recruiting center, which was not a target. Lorrie Guthrie, who works for Kelly’s Home Medical Supply, which is next door to the Marine Recruiting Office, told the Dispatch-Argus that she didn’t hear the gunshots, but realized something was wrong when large numbers of police arrived in the area.

Jim Stenger, a spokesman for the 9th Marine Corps Recruiting District, said in a statement that all Marine Corps Recruiting Command personnel “have been accounted for and are unharmed.” About 10 minutes later, police were called to a shooting near Miller-Meier Limb and Brace, Inc., a custom prosthetic and orthotic device manufacturer in nearby in Bettendorf, local media reported. There were no additional injuries reported at the second location and police did not immediately reveal how many shots were fired at the location before the fatal shot.
