Gunman sought after shooting off-duty New Orleans officer in neck.

Bystanders rushed to help a wounded off-duty New Orleans cop after a gunman shot him in the neck during a drive-by shooting, according to local reports. A 32-year-old man who shot at a police officer Sunday afternoon will be arrested and charged once he is released from a hospital, New Orleans police said. The officer was on his way to visit his father when the shooter in a moving gold-colored SUV opened fire in the 3300 block of Alvar Street, WWL-TV reported. The gunshots shattered Frick’s window, but he managed to pull over to the side of the road where a handful of good Samaritans came to Frick’s aid, according to Nola.com.

He was awake and talking as of late Sunday — and thankful for those who helped him, Mayor Mitch Landrieu said at a press conference after the shooting.
