Dead Internet Theory

I’m currently learning web dev and my class spoke about how the internet is essentially dying year over year. Bots are everywhere, enshittification of sites and SEOs/algorithms running everything into the ground. Over-saturation of influencers and content overexposure.

There’s multiple articles on HN every week that talk about how the good websites are gone or hard to find and apps are becoming a better face for companies than sites. Tiktok being used for search more than Google by the young demographics.

I’ve also thought about how AI is going to spit out massive amounts of cheap content and information that will just confuse/annoy people. You won’t know what to believe and you’ll have to make a huge effort just to figure out if what you’re reading wasn’t puked out by some AI. AI art and music is already starting to make its way onto Spotify and it all sounds awful. We also spoke about how the internet will eventually bog down and a large group of people will essentially “leave” it. It also matches up with the Lindy effect.

What do you think of this?
