1 dead in Las Vegas after woman with 3-year-old in vehicle plows into crowd.

A car plowed into pedestrians on the Las Vegas Strip Sunday night, killing at least one and injuring more than three dozen people in what police called a “mass casualty incident.” Just outside Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, where the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant was being broadcast, a woman drove her car onto a crowded sidewalk around 6:40 p.m.The vehicle was in the northbound lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard near Bellagio Way when it drove up onto the sideway in front of the Paris Hotel & Casino and struck pedestrians, including 37 people who were taken to the hospital, Police Lt.

A large crowd of onlookers near the Bellagio fountain gawked at the busy site littered with towels, clothes and shoes where six people were critically injured. A couple visiting from Wisconsin, Rabia Quershi, said her surgeon husband immediately stopped the car and darted out to help after witnessing the chaos she likened to bowling. Peter Boffelli said at a press conference there is “no telling” whether the incident was an “impairment” — meaning the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs — an act of terrorism, or something else. Homicide and counterterrorism units are at the scene “to ensure that we have this investigation locked and stocked by the end of the night,” he added.

Brian Sandoval released a statement after the crash, saying that he has spoken with Sheriff Joe Lombardo and extending sympathies to those affected, according to KTNV.
