Akron man pleads guilty to son’s stabbing death, victim was band member in Murphy’s Children.

An Akron man was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to one count of murder in the slaying of his son for trying to evict him for stealing money to feed his drug addiction. Kevin Golec, 53, who was charged in a seven-count indictment, was set to go to trial Monday before Summit County Common Pleas Judge Tammy O’Brien, but the plea deal was negotiated before the proceedings began. Moments after O’Brien concluded the sentencing order by allowing for the possibility of parole after serving a full 15-years, Golec was led out of the courtroom in shackles by sheriff’s deputies. Brian Golic, an aspiring minister who was praised by his mother as a “very good and loving son” during victim impact statements, was a drummer in the local band, Murphy’s Children.
