Kevin Daigle, accused murderer of Louisiana trooper, makes first court appearance.

The man accused of killing Louisiana State Trooper Steven Vincent acknowledged Tuesday morning during his first court appearance that he would likely face the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder. Kevin Daigle, 54, is alleged to have shot Vincent in the head with a sawed-off shotgun on Sunday as Vincent was walking toward Daigle’s truck, which had stopped in a ditch. Mike Edmonson, of the Louisiana state police, said in a statement posted to Facebook. “As an organization, we are heartbroken over this senseless and tragic death.” The Washington Post reports that Vincent was allegedly shot and killed by 54 year old Kevin Daigle.

A public defender has been appointed to represent Daigle, who is also a suspect in the killing of his roommate, who was found dead Monday but may have died earlier. Kevin Daigle’s criminal history, provided to The Associated Press by law enforcement officials across two parishes in southwest Louisiana, was lengthy. “Kevin was a good person until he started drinking.

Daigle has been booked into jail at least 12 times since 1987, stemming from incidents involving theft, drugs, DWI, arson and assault, according to KPLC. Before that, he’d served nearly two years in prison from 2012 to 2014 for a felony arson conviction and parole revocation for a third offense DWI, according to the state corrections department.

But any other time he’d have given you the shirt on his back.” Kevin Daigle was apprehended Sunday evening by Robert LeDoux, who told AP he tackled Daigle after he saw the man riffling through the pockets of a bloodied state trooper and trying to take the officer’s handgun out of its holster. Daigle “led investigators to believe an altercation occurred between him and Brewer which led to Brewer’s death,” the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
