4 dead after car slams through crowd at OSU homecoming parade.

A woman police say was driving while intoxicated plowed her sedan into a crowd attending the Oklahoma State University’s Sea of Orange homecoming parade Saturday morning. The Stillwater police department did not provide the name of a two-year-old boy who also died, but did say 11 of the nearly four-dozen people who were injured were children. The crash also killed a 2-year-old boy and hurt other children among spectators during what was supposed to be a joyful event Saturday morning in Stillwater.

Police arrested the driver, 25-year-old Adacia Chambers, on a DUI charge and are awaiting blood test results to determine if she was impaired by drugs or alcohol. After seeing the crash and surveying the street still strewn with lawn chairs, blankets and water bottles Saturday afternoon, Dan Whitmore said he had changed his mind about attending the homecoming game. “You look at the carnage alone. (Someone) had a little baby stroller crushed up. The youngest victim was a 1-year-old listed in good condition at a local hospital; the oldest, a 66-year-old woman who was treated for injuries and released. The White House said Saturday the proliferation of testing in the United States — a problem the administration acknowledged it has played a role in — has taken away too much valuable time that could be better spent on learning, teaching and fostering creativity in schools.

She was booked on a driving while under the influence charge at Payne County Jail, and additional charges may await when she appears in court Monday. Kyle Gibbs said 23-year-old Nakita Prabhakar of Edmond was killed in the crash, along with Bonnie Jean Stone and Marvin Lyle Stone, both 65 and of Stillwater. Maureen O’Hara, the flame-haired Irish movie star who appeared in classics ranging from the grim How Green Was My Valley to the uplifting Miracle on 34th Street and bantered unforgettably with John Wayne in several films, died Saturday at age 95.

A pep rally before the game was canceled, said Noble, who was the parade’s grand marshal. “Our hearts and prayers go out with those who lost loved ones today, to those that were injured in the tragedy,” Fallin said during a halftime news conference. Gibbs said Chambers’ Hyundai Elantra struck an unoccupied motorcycle of an officer who was working security at the parade, then went into the crowd. Chambers’ father, Floyd Chambers of Oologah, told The Oklahoman newspaper he couldn’t believe his daughter was involved and said she was not an alcoholic. And Oklahoma State women’s basketball coach Kurt Budke and assistant Miranda Serna were among four killed in a plane crash in Arkansas in 2011 while on a recruiting trip. “The families, I know, and these victims will never be able to understand this, nor will we,” Hargis said. “But the Cowboy family pulls together.

We are definitely subdued in mood and we’re still trying to understand.” As the game played on just two blocks away, the intersection of Hall of Fame and Main streets remained blocked by law enforcement vehicles and yellow tape. The mangled silver Hyundai sedan remained where it had stopped, with its two front tires popped over the curb on the southwest corner of the intersection.
