Metro reopens Glenmont, Wheaton stations after smoke reports

Metro’s Glenmont and Wheaton stations on Red Line have reopened.

But Montgomery County firefighters said In a Twitter message, Metro Transit Police said there was “no fire, no smoke, tracks & tunnel are clear.” Fire officials in Montgomery County also said in a Twitter message that there was no fire, no smoke and the tracks were clear.

In several Twitter messages, the Montgomery County Fire spokesman Pete Piringer said firefighters were deployed at both the Glenmont and Wheaton stops. They were investigating and trying to determine if it is “an insulator/track problem or a train car issue.” There were reports of light haze, he said.

He said an “inspection train” reported the slight haze, “no source has been identified.” Firefighters were also looking at vent shafts on Georgia Avenue.
