FLOTUS welcomes White House Christmas tree.

First Lady Michelle Obama kicked off the holiday season on Friday as she (along with dogs Sunny and Bo) welcomed this year’s first Christmas tree to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The tree – an 18½ foot tall Fraser fir from Lansdale, Pennsylvania – will stand commandingly in the White House’s Blue Room throughout the season, and will be known as the official White House Christmas tree for 2015.

We’ll get it in the house.” The Fraser fir came from Bustard’s Christmas Trees in Lansdale, Pennsylvania and arrived on a horse-drawn cart while a quintet of the president’s Marine band played “O Christmas Tree.” The tree is traditionally presented to the First Lady. Last year, decorations included a whopping 26 trees, ornate garlands and lighting displays, and animated replicas of Sunny and Bo, all of which took a total of 106 volunteers a week to complete.

The First Family will continue the holiday festivities into next week, when President Obama will light the National Christmas Tree in the Ellipse near the White House.
