1 Dead, 1 Seriously Injured In Collapse At Site Of Building Under Demolition In Midtown.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – One person was killed and another seriously injured when the interior of a building that was being demolished collapsed Friday morning.

At least one person is dead and another is reportedly trapped after the ceiling of an under-construction hotel in midtown Manhattan collapsed this morning. The South Ferry station — battered with 15 million gallons of saltwater during the 2012 storm — will have its main entrance closed for more than nine months starting Monday. Some 60 firefighters and representatives from the Department of Buildings are on the scene looking through the rubble inside the five-story structure, CBS2’s Tony Aiello reported. “There’s been a lot of construction on this street,” Lesli Sunshine, who works in the area, told Aiello. “I mean, it’s just a crazy thing.

The hotel’s developer, Fortuna Realty Group, refused to comment to the New York Times, with a rep telling the paper the firm was still gathering information about the accident.
