Batavia Mother Charged in Infant’s Death.

BATAVIA, N.Y. On August 27, 2015 at approximately 11:20 PM, officers of the Batavia Police Department responded to a suspicious condition call at 208 Liberty Street. Police launched an investigation Thursday after an acquaintance visiting Christina Colantonio’s apartment in Batavia, about 45 miles from Buffalo, found the baby’s body and called 911, Batavia police said.

Authorities would not say how the baby died, but police said investigators “have enough evidence to come to a conclusion it was intentionally caused.” Those neighbors described her as a “quiet girl,” “a nice girl;” not the kind of girl to get into trouble. “It’s horrible,” Jennifer Hageman, a neighbor of Colantonio’s, told the Daily News. “Considering the street is so quiet, that you would never think that it would happen here. Police officers responded to the call and arrived at the residence at approximately 11:30 pm after being told there was a “suspicious condition” on the premises. “Batavia police detectives were able to determine that [the baby] was born at home and that [Colantonio] kept the deceased infant there for a prolonged period of time,” said Detective Sgt.

Monday. “We have enough to have come to the conclusion that the death was intentionally caused, but because of the fact that we do not have a final autopsy report and because the investigation, we won’t be indicating anything further about that (cause of death),” Genesee County District Attorney Lawrence Friedman said. Police officers were so horrified by the condition of the baby that it has been reported by ABC News that the officers that found her were offered counseling.
