Arrest Made After Newborn Girl Found Buried Alive Near Compton Riverbed.

The name of the suspect, described as a the baby’s mother, was not made public although the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department planned to hold a news conference at 10 a.m.COMPTON >> Sheriff’s officials announced they have arrested the mother of a newborn infant found abandoned and buried alive along a Compton bike path last month. The baby girl was believed to be no more than two days old when she was discovered buried in a crevice and covered with asphalt and other debris about 4 p.m.

The baby was found on Nov. 27 buried alive after deputies received a call of a baby crying in the riverbed located between 136th Street and Slater Avenue. When deputies arrived, they heard the baby’s muffled cry and found the infant believed to have been born within the previous 36 to 48 hours buried alive. Authorities previously said that the person who left the child buried could be charged with attempted murder and child endangerment, but didn’t indicate if charges had been filed against the mother in the statement. According to the Safe Surrender law, parents can drop off their newborn at any hospital or fire station confidentially within 72 hours without fear of prosecution, said Sgt.
