Action sports star Erik Roner dies in skydiving accident.

Erik Roner, a Tahoe City resident known for his action-sports performances, died Monday morning while performing with a skydiving team at a celebrity golf event in Placer County.Erik Roner, the extreme sports athlete and TV personality, died in a parachuting accident in Squaw Valley, Calif., on Monday, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to EW. According to witness reports, Roner was performing at a golf event as part of a skydiving group when he struck a tree and became entangled in it while attempting to land.

A native of Northern California, Roner pioneered ski BASE jumping and was known to television viewers as a cast member of MTV’s Nitro Circus and the host of Outside Television’s Locals. The golf event was hosted in Olympic Valley by The Squaw Valley Institute, an organization to which Roner regularly dedicated his time, the statement said. Rob Faris, senior vice president of programming and production at Outside TV, said in a statement, “There are no words that can express this tremendous loss to the Outside Television family.

I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.” Last year Roner made a video of himself tied to 90 helium balloons flying through the sky sitting on a lawn chair, recreating the scene from the movie “Up”.
