Florida sheriff’s deputy critical after shooting outside law firm.

The suspect in the shooting of an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy in Shalimar early Tuesday was arrested at the Comfort Inn and Suites on John Sims Parkway. The deputy, whose name has not been released, was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center where he was undergoing surgery mid-morning, Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Michele Nicholson said. “Our crews didn’t know it was an officer until they arrived on scene,” Christen said. “Our company provided advanced life support to the victim.” “We saw the officer lying on the ground,” Gunter said. “When the Sheriff’s Office arrived, they immediately rolled him over. … He was unresponsive. It was reported later by WEAR that the suspect had died. “We are praying for our friend, our co-worker, our community’s selfless public servant as he battles for his life this morning after being shot in the line of duty,” an OCSO Facebook post said. “We also pray for his family and we appreciate all the prayers and support from the public and fellow law enforcement officers and other first responders during this difficult ordeal.”
