Philadelphia Police Investigate Pig’s Head Thrown at Mosque.

Philadelphia police said Tuesday plan to increase patrols around mosques as they search for the person who left a severed pig’s head outside one Sunday. Police are also looking to enhance security footage that shows someone throwing the animal’s head out the passenger door of a red pickup truck, Commissioner Charles Ramsey said. This is the second time the the Al Aqsa Islamic Society has been targeted in recent weeks: a few days after the Paris attacks, an unidentified called and left a voicemail. “I hope you people are happy about what you did in Paris,” the man said, according to NBC. “I’d just like to state for the record that Allah is a piece of pork shit.” The Quran prohibits Muslims from eating pork. Mayor Michael Nutter convened a news conference in which he was flanked by several dozen of the city’s religious and political leaders to condemn the incident at the mosque and call for greater tolerance. Philadelphia police told the Washington Post that the object was thrown from the passenger side of the truck, and that the vehicle’s occupants are not visible in the video footage.

A day earlier, a pig’s head was discovered at the Al-Aqsa Islamic Society mosque in Philadelphia, according to Marwan Kreidie, a spokesman for the mosque. Kreidie said the incident could be considered a ‘hate crime’, and blamed the recent rhetoric of Republican presidential candidates, such as Donald Trump’s call to ban Muslims from entering the US. A worker opening the mosque, which is in the same building as an Islamic school and the Arab American Development Corp., found the pig’s head around 6 a.m. Trump from the city if he could. “Donald Trump has made himself a danger to our society and the freedoms that we enjoy by seeking to turn American against American, all for the sake of electoral points,” Mr.

Nutter called Trump’s proposal “flat-out ignorant” and said, “If I had the power, the only banning that would be done is that I would ban him from Philadelphia. We don’t have any room for that kind of stupidity here.” On Monday, Trump proposed stopping Muslims from coming to America “until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses.” His suggested ban was quickly condemned by other presidential candidates from both parties. In November, shots were fired at a mosque in Connecticut, vandals painted graffiti on a mosque in Nebraska and a fake explosive device was left at the front gate of a mosque in Virginia.

Over the weekend, a Sikh house of worship in Orange County, Calif., was targeted by vandals who spray-painted gang symbols and references to ISIS, according to the Sikh Coalition, a group that represents victims of hate crimes.
