N.Y. Man Pleads Guilty To Recruiting For ISIS, Could Face 30-Year Prison Term.

In one of the first cases of a ISIL recruiter’s capture in the nation, 31 year old Mufid Elfgeeh pled guilty to attempting to provide material support and resources to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, a designated foreign terrorist organization.

From December 2013 through May of 2014 Elfgeeh actively recruited and attempted to send two individuals to Syria to join and fight on behalf of ISIL along with sending money to an individual in Yemen to allow them travel money to Syria in order to join the fight on behalf of ISIL. The defendant provided guidance to Individuals A and B about traveling so that they could avoid detection and the vetting process involved in joining ISIL.
