Maryland: Man Killed and Officer Shot in Baltimore Confrontation.

“These officers were part of that team that were out here going after people, like this suspect, who have guns, that are on the street trying to harm communities,” said T.J.

Smith, Baltimore City Police Department. “We ask these young police officers to go out here and do police work and to confront the people in our society who are harming us. Smith says the incident occurred in the 3700 block of Oakmount Avenue around 7:45 p.m. when two officers involved in a “crime initiative” program encountered a man with a gun.

Davis and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake later went to the hospital to visit the wounded officer. “Anytime you hear about a police officer being shot from this leadership position, it just makes your heart drop to your stomach,” Davis said. “Thankfully, he’s going to be OK.” She had to put her car in reverse because she heard the fire and saw the fire coming from guns,” she said. “It’s got a lot to do with the parenting and the neighborhood.
