County Police: Investigation Ongoing into Normandy Shooting.

NORMANDY, Mo. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a reportedly suicidal 18-year-old they say shot himself in the face after exchanging gunfire with responding police — an account his father called “a total lie.” Amonderez Green of Florissant died about 4:30 a.m. The scene is near the Normandy-Ferguson city line, and the incident began when a Ferguson police lieutenant driving south in the 5800 block of Bermuda Drive was contacted at 1:53 p.m. by a resident who was following a man and reported him to be possibly suicidal, police said. Louis County Police are investigating a shooting that left a man critically wounded in Normandy – a shooting that has many wondering who fired the shot. Wednesday, when Green was being followed by relatives who were “seeking police and medical intervention.” When confronted by officers, Normandy police Cpl. Tamika Sanders says at this point, it appears an officer did trade shots with the man, but they do not believe he was shot by the officer. “I don’t want to speculate,” Sanders says. “However, there were no officers in the proximity of the individual at the time that that gunshot was heard.

And then when they came around the corner, they observed the male unresponsive.” A neighbor at the scene who declined to give her name told reporters that she watched from her window as officers fired two final shots that knocked down the man at close range. Tamika Sanders explained what happened next: “Officers in pursuit of the male momentarily lost sight of him, however hearing one additional gunshot. Chief Andre Anderson would only say that they were there to assist with first aid after Green was shot and referred questions about the incident to Normandy police.

All Normandy officers are trained in crisis intervention, Sanders said. “Whatever they are saying, it’s a lie,” said Jermell Simpson, the father of an 18-year-old man who was shot after a confrontation with police in Normandy on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015.
