2 people arrested in search for fugitive who shot officerA Kentucky fugitive who has been on the run for five days amid a multi-state manhunt was spotted again late Wednesday but fled into a nearby cornfield after crashing his car. NASHVILLE — Multiple police agencies searched in White House, Tenn., Wednesday night for a Kentucky man wanted in connection to an officer-involved shooting that left a deputy wounded over the weekend.A rural Kentucky school district has canceled classes for a third straight day out of fear that a fugitive accused of shooting at law officers in two states might be lurking nearby. Marshals investigated a vehicle Wednesday night, which lead to a short chase that ended with two people fleeing into the woods near mile marker 108 on Interstate 65, said Danny Shelton, spokesman for the Middle Tennessee U.S. Investigators initially said Floyd Ray Cook and his alleged accomplice, Troy Wayne, were in the vehicle, but later said they cannot confirm both men were in the car. “This is not a joke, this is real,” said Lt.

Marshals investigated the area, Miller said, they stopped a car at Shell gas station near the intersection of Highway 76 and Interstate 65 around 8 p.m. Marshal Service is the lead agency working the case, but they are working in conjunction with multiple law enforcement agencies, including Tennessee Highway Patrol and Putnam County officers.

Miller said one of the suspects fired shots at the marshals, a collision happened and the car then sped down a dead-end road, Industrial Drive, before going through a fence and into a field. They have no intention except to hurt someone, to get away, and they have proven that at least three times.” About an hour after the first shooting, a Kentucky trooper spotted Cook’s truck on a Burkesville highway.

The manhunt comes nearly a year after police spent about seven weeks in search of Eric Frein, the survivalist accused of killing a Pennsylvania state trooper. In July, Cook was indicted on charges of first-degree trafficking in methamphetamine and tampering with physical evidence, according to Hardin County court records in Kentucky. The Robertson County Sheriff’s Department contacted multiple businesses around the area and advised managers not to allow anyone to enter or leave the businesses due to the manhunt. Several months ago, the Marion County sheriff’s office, making routine checks on the sex offenders in the county, discovered he was no longer living there, said Sheriff Jimmy Clements.
