Avondale, Arizona, mom Mireya Alejandra Lopez drowns twin sons: Cops.

PHOENIX (AP) — A woman accused of drowning her 2-year-old twin sons told police she did it because nobody loved them or her, according to a court document released Monday. Mireya Alejandra Lopez was allegedly attempting to drown a third child at a home in Avondale, Arizona, when a family member raced to help the youngster just in time.A young mother drowns her twin 2-year-old boys and tries to drown another child (which thankfully doesn’t happen) and the first question we ask ourselves, because it’s the most logical, is, “Why?” According to police, Mireya Lopez, 22, told investigators she drowned her two boys and tried to drown another child before she was stopped by family members. She is alleged to have been under the influence of drugs when the boys were drowned and has said that she suffers from manic depression, psychosis and schizophrenia. Somewhere down the road, after investigators and prosecutors and mental health professionals and the courts work their way through this unbelievable horror, we will get an explanation.

Busse said responding officers found the twin boys unconscious on a bed and began resuscitation efforts before they were taken to two local hospitals, where they were pronounced dead. The grandmother yelled for help and began life-saving measures on the twins before hearing Lopez in the bathroom, where she saw Lopez holding down the third boy in the bathtub, according to the statement.
