Chicago gang member charged in nine-year-old boy’s death.

CHICAGO — One of three suspects in the slaying of Tyshawn Lee engaged the 9-year-old in conversation Nov. 2 while the boy was on a swing at a play lot, then lured him to a nearby alley and gunned him down, Cook County prosecutors and Chicago police said Friday. The police in Chicago said Friday that they had made an arrest in the murder of a 9-year-old boy who was shot to death after being lured into an alley in one of the most notorious crimes in the city’s recent history.CHICAGO (CBS) — A 27-year-old man has been ordered held without bail in the execution-style shooting of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee, and police said at least two others were involved in the “unfathomable crime,” including one in custody on an unrelated charge and another who remains at large. As two of the gang members drove off in a black SUV, the one who remained in Dawes Park picked up Tyshawn’s basketball and dribbled it a few times before handing it back to him. Prosecutors allege Morgan was intent on settling the score after an October shooting killed his brother and injured his mother in a months-long gang feud.

Morgan’s bond hearing, prosecutors said members of the Gangster Disciples’ Terror Dome faction had been looking for revenge in the weeks since Mr. McCarthy said, while a third, Kevin Edwards, is on the run and being sought by the police on a first-degree murder warrant in the death of the child, Tyshawn Lee. Police have said Tyshawn was lured into the alley, and executed, because of his father’s gang ties, and a recent series of shootings between rival gangs. Prosecutors alleged that he had vowed to “kill grandmas, mamas, kids and all.” AMMAN, Jordan — Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson will tour a Syrian refugee camp near the Jordanian capital this weekend, according to a person familiar with the planning . Prosecutors said an autopsy report showed Tyshawn suffered five gunshot wounds, including a partially severed thumb, as if he were trying to block the gunshots.

McCarthy praised local residents, saying they overcame fears and risks of retaliation to come forward and offer tips to police. “If you have a monster who’s willing to assassinate a 9-year-old, what is that person likely to do if they know that somebody’s co-operating with the case?” McCarthy said at a news conference. McCarthy said the three men were gang members who played a role in an “unfathomable crime” that was carried out to get back at Tyshawn’s father, though he did not say specifically why.

Tyshawn’s mother, Karla Lee, said she grew up with Morgan and was disgusted to learn of his alleged involvement in what authorities have called an execution. “The feeling? The trip, which was not made public in advance, is intended to give the retired neurosurgeon credibility on an issue that has become increasingly important in the wake of the Paris attacks. BALTIMORE — The National Security Agency is scheduled to end its dragnet collection of records about Americans’ phone calls tonight — the most significant change in U.S. intelligence-gathering since Edward Snowden revealed details of the agency’s programs. Under the Patriot Act approved by Congress after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the NSA had been permitted to gather records about phone calls and hunt through them to discover connections to al-Qaida and other groups. McCarthy said police have been searching for Edwards for a few weeks, and believe he’s still in the area, but in hiding. “We believe he’s still in the area.

DALLAS — Two children were killed Friday afternoon in East Dallas County after the car they were riding in collided with a vehicle that was speeding on rain-slick streets, and three others were reported dead Friday morning after flooding in North Texas. Detectives have not recovered the murder weapon, but they believe only one person fired because all the spent bullet casings were from a single gun, McCarthy said. McCarthy wouldn’t discuss the role each man allegedly played, but prosecutors’ account of what happened made it clear that Morgan was not suspected of being the gunman. — A 52-year-old Waffle House server was enforcing the no-smoking policy at the restaurant when she was shot and killed by a customer after she told him to put out a cigarette. You know what I’m saying?” Walker said during a brief interview at the front entrance to her Far South Side home. “I think he might’ve just been around or been with the person that did it.

Investigators have said he was targeted in retribution for the killing of Morgan’s brother, Tracey Morgan, who was gunned down three weeks before Tyshawn was killed. He said Morgan, whom detectives had sought to question about the slaying twice before at a police station, took part in several police lineups but was released after citing his right to an attorney and refusal to give a statement. That gang just signed its own death warrant, because all along, from day one, when we knew the circumstances of this being gang interaction, I said ‘Prepare the plan. Don’t jeopardize the investigation, but we’re going to go and destroy that gang; and, by the way, the rival gang, too,” McCarthy said. “We’re going to assign resources to ensure that neither one of those gangs can raise its head again.” The superintendent said detectives got a lot of help from the community during the investigation, even though they had good reason to fear for their own safety by cooperating with police. “This was very clearly not a case of no snitching, but there was a lot of fear, which is completely understandable. Morgan and a second person then left in the SUV, and the third suspect engaged Tyshawn in conversation and lured him back to the alley, where he was slain, according to prosecutors and police.

Five days later after that killing, a Killa Ward member was wounded in a shooting near 78th and Honore streets in Auburn Gresham that also left 19-year-old Brianna Jenkins dead, according to police. McCarthy credited community members who came forward to help and said tens of thousands of dollars that had been raised in reward money had played no role in solving the killing. He also vowed that both gang factions suspected in Tyshawn’s killing and the other retaliatory slayings and shootings had signed their own “death warrants.”
