Dramatic video: Gun-wielding man scales San Francisco construction site and aims at hospital before police kill him.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — A 25-year-old gunman and robbery suspect who was fatally shot by San Francisco police officers atop a construction site at California Pacific Medical Center’s St. A gunman who scaled a building under construction and began shooting next to a hospital in downtown San Francisco had stolen his weapons from a sports equipment store in nearby San Bruno, police said.

The suspect, who has not been identified, then focused his weapon on responding officers, who responded by opening fire on the man and killing him, KTVU reports. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the man had robbed a Big 5 Sporting Goods store 10 miles away using a handgun, and then emerged with a shotgun and shells before showing up at the site about half an hour later.

Responding officers heard shots being fired and came across a man, later identified as Garcia, standing on top of a construction elevator and pointing a rifle at the hospital. Seamus James, a 33-year-old Web developer who works in an office across the street from the hospital, told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday that his co-workers heard what sounded like several gunshots around 4:30 p.m.
