Bergen courthouse evacuated after ‘odd items’ found.

New Jersey officers smashed the window of a hot van and saved a screaming, sweating child who had been left there as her clueless mom went grocery shopping Thursday afternoon. “Where are the parents?” Bergen County Sheriff’s Officer Rich Carrion bellows after his parking lot rescue outside a Costco in Hackensack, as seen in cell phone video posted on Facebook by witness Rafael Rodriguez. As CBS2’s Dave Carlin reported, inside of the Toyota minivan surrounded by police officers was a sweating 2-year-old girl, who sheriffs said was left behind by her mother. “He approached the vehicle and quickly reacted, broke the window open on the other side,” Rodriguez said, “She was totally sweaty, very drenched.

HACKENSACK — The Bergen County courthouse was briefly evacuated Thursday when sheriff’s officers came across “odd items” during a search of the building, authorities said. Less than a minute after the officers started running the van’s license plates, the mother, Chaeyoung Lim-Kim, finally returned with another child — and a shopping cart stuffed with groceries. They were called by the manager of the Hackensack store, WPIX-TV reported. “Sweat was just coming down, almost as if someone threw a bucket of water on her,” Rodriguez told WNBC, “that’s how bad it was.” Video of the incident has been viewed more than 3 million times since it was posted to Facebook Thursday. She was very red and crying.” “She just said, ‘I’m sorry,’ it looks like she didn’t speak English,” Rodriguez said, “The police officer told her: ‘How can you say you’re sorry? She could have died!” “I believe this is not the first time that she’s done this,” Rafael Rodriguez told the station. “She knew what she was doing when she did it, and this time she got caught.”

The girl was taken to a hospital and released to her father, the sheriff’s office told WNBC, adding that the mother was arrested for child endangerment and released with a desk ticket.
