Nicole Vaisey and her boyfriend, Stephen Howells, admitted in state and federal courts that they kidnapped the two girls and have sexually exploited six children altogether. Attorney Lisa Fletcher wrote in court papers prior to the sentencing. “He poses a real and substantial threat to children, and to young girls in particular.” From December 2012 to August 2014, prosecutors said, Howells sexually abused the children while Vaisey made video recordings.

In separate appearances Thursday afternoon before federal judge Glen Suddaby, Stephen Howells and Nicole Vaisey were handed sentences that will keep them locked up for the rest of their lives. The couple admitted in May that they sexually exploited the children, who ranged in age from 5 to 11, by drugging the youths and then recording sexual acts with them on video. “I’d just like to say, that the evil I’ve done is my own,” Howells said. “The victims did nothing wrong. Howells and Vaisey earlier also pleaded guilty to New York state charges related to the kidnapping as part of a plea deal calling for 25 years in state prison for each.
