Arrest Made In Theft Of Weapons From Worcester Armory.

A man facing child rape charges in Middlesex County is in custody for breaking into a US armory in Worcester last weekend and stealing 16 military-grade weapons, federal officials said Thursday. The FBI announced Thursday morning that James Walker Morales was taken into custody Wednesday night by authorities on New York’s Long Island on state and federal warrants.

WORCESTER, Mass. (WWLP/AP) – The Nassau County Police Department and the FBI arrested a man in New York Wednesday in connection with the theft of 16 weapons from the Lincoln Army Reserve Center. According to an an FBI affidavit, Morales was linked to the armory theft by DNA evidence and by an electronic monitoring bracelet he wears since he is out on bail on a child rape charge.

Investigators later discovered the thief broke a kitchen window to get into the drill room and then climbed on top of the vault before cutting a hole through its ceiling, which is made of several layers of metal and wood. They claim DNA obtained from those stains was a match for Morales, who had been wearing a monitoring bracelet after he was charged with child rape back in May.
