Chilling video shows good Samaritan escaping death after gunman tries to shoot him in head.

A Tulane University medical student saw his life threatened and then saved Friday morning, when a robber shot him in the stomach and then tried to put a bullet in his head — but the gun jammed. “We’re going to find you, we’re going to prosecute you and you’re going to spend the rest of your life behind bars,” Mayor Mitch Landrieu said Sunday after cops identified the shooter earlier in the day.New Orleans police said Sunday they believe 21-year-old Euric Cain is the man seen on a one-minute surveillance video shooting a Tulane medical student who helped to stop a woman being mugged. Police identified Euric Cain, 21, as the cold-blooded gunman seen in the chilling video they released Saturday of the incident that unfolded early Friday morning.

Before he had a chance to call police, the man who had been dragging the woman stepped out of a light-colored sport utility vehicle and pointed a semi-automatic pistol at Gold, the paper reported. The driver, later identified as 25-year-old Peter Gold, tries to stop the man — who whips out a semi-automatic weapon, demanding that Gold give him money as he holds a gun to his head. Next, it shows the hooded man pointing a large automatic weapon at Gold and demanding money. “I cannot get it out of my head, trying to, trying to just get by and get over it,” the witness said. “So I hope everybody’s okay and I hope they catch that guy and he’s put away forever.”

Gold survived the shooting and remains in “guarded condition” at University Medical Center, where he is expected to recover fully, according to the Advocate. Gold is in his fourth year at Tulane’s med school and also earned a bachelor’s degree there, university president Michael Fitts said in a campus-wide email.
