Affidavit: Lufkin man pushed child in pond to make room in home for another child.

LUFKIN (AP) – An East Texas teenager is accused of pushing his pregnant girlfriend’s 3-year-old nephew into a pond so the boy would drown to make room for the unborn child to live at their home. According to an arrest affidavit, Lieutenant Brett Maisel and Texas Ranger Steven Rayburn interviewed Woods, who said he took Mason to the pond and pushed him into the water and watched him as he began to drown and turned his back to him, making no attempt to rescue him, despite Mason’s cries for help.

Angelina County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Friday morning arrested a 17-year-old man on a charge of capital murder in the death of a 3-year-old who was found in a pond after being reported missing earlier this month. Mason’s parents, Kevin Cuttler and Brandi Wonzer, issued this written statement to The Lufkin News on Friday afternoon: “Thank you to the departments, law enforcement agencies, and volunteers for your help in our time of loss.

The case will be referred to the Angelina County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution, the sheriff’s office said. “The Angelina County Sheriff’s Department has been in daily contact with the Cuttler family and would like to thank them for their continued cooperation,” the department said in an email Friday. “The Sheriff’s Department extends their condolences to the family.” The Sheriff’s Department said it would also like to express appreciation for the assistance provided by the Lufkin Police Department and the Texas Rangers, as well as everyone who assisted in recovering Mason Cuttler’s body.
