Tennessee Deputy Injured in Shooting; Suspect in Custody

2 Shot, Including Deputy, in TN Standoff.

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. – An East Tennessee sheriff says a deputy and a woman have been injured in a shooting and the suspect has been taken into custody. ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) — A man accused of opening fire on Carter County’s authorities, wounding two people, including a deputy, has been found in a cave near the eastern Tennessee home where shots had been exchanged.

According to CBS affiliate WJHL, the incident happened Wednesday night near a home on Dry Hollow Road in the Stoney Creek community, located about five hours east of Nashville, just outside of Johnson City. Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford told news outlets that the deputy, Jenna Markland, was shot twice in the face and was taken to a hospital, where she is doing well and expected to recover. Lunceford states he doesn’t have details on the opposite lady injured.Lunceford states he & three deputies responded to a call Wed. night reporting a drunken guy waving around a gun. He states he arrived & got the person’s family out of the residence, still when different deputies arrived, the suspect started firing towards them.
