Officer Shot, Two People Stabbed at Louisiana Store.

A gunman was in custody early Wednesday evening after he stabbed two people, shot a police officer and smashed into a convenience store in Sunset, Louisiana, where he barricaded himself in a standoff with police, authorities said. Sheriff Bobby Guidroz told reporters in Sunset the accused attacker had barricaded himself inside a gas station and that Swat officers were in the process of coaxing him out.

He says the officer was “responsive” but he has no details on the extent of the officer’s injuries — or those of the other two people who were shot. The police department consists of Chief Louie Padilla, six officers, four dispatchers, a secretary and 12 reserve officers, according to the department’s website. Authorities tossed in tear gas and used axes to ram into an inner office where the man was barricaded, taking the suspect — who wasn’t immediately identified — into custody.

Lena Truong tells KATC-TV (http://bit.ly/1U77oIx) the man ran into the store and pointed a gun at her sister, Nini Truong, and asked where her father was. State police Superintendent Mike Edmonson says troopers are on the way to the scene in Sunset, about 70 miles west of Baton Rouge, after getting a call around 4:45 p.m.
