A gang member named Dante Askins was arrested first Thursday afternoon while he was driving a stolen car nearly a mile away from the previous night’s carjacking. In January, Orange County prosecutors dropped four counts of attempted murder against Askins, an alleged gang member, in connection to a 2013 shooting. By then, investigators said the officer’s wife was concerned and called for help. “At the end of the day, he was able to get out of the vehicle”. Officials informed that all the four arrestees are going to be charged with the abduction of Armando Alaniz, a federal customs agent, as stated by the records.

The authorities don’t believe there was any political motivation for taking the 44-year-old agent, but they were unknowingly “playing a unsafe game” in the process. Deputies said there has been a spike in crime off global Drive and in addition to more patrols, law enforcement agencies have redeployed different resources to help fight crime. “I don’t know what happened”, said Tracey Redding. Alaniz’s wife reported his husband’s missing information to OnStar, a vehicle communications business that traces disabled and stolen vehicles, to call her husband.

Askins remains held with no granting of bail in the Orange County Jail with additional charges of multiple counts of stealing vehicles and repelling arrest with the force of violence.
