Check out President Obama’s summer reading list.

Indian-American Pulitzer Prize winning author Jhumpa Lahiri’s second novel ‘The Lowland’ is among the six books which are part of the summer reading list of US President Barack Obama.

Ta-Nehisi Coates’ nonfiction examination of American race relations Between the World and Me, which Jon Stewart featured on The Daily Show in his last weeks as its host, is included. Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 2014 novel All the Light We Cannot See, a film adaptation of which is currently in development at Fox Searchlight, is there too.

Obama is also paying homage to novelist James Salter, who died in June, by reading his 2013 novel All That Is, and to our first president, by including Ron Chernow’s George Washington biography Washington: A Life. One is not sure, if Obama is reading actual books or using a digital device, but it is well known that Obama bought Lahiri’s hardcover book during an event when it first came out a while back. And just as Michelle Obama favors American fashion designers, her husband’s literary leanings are similarly patriotic: all six authors are American.
