Councilman: Baby-Snatching May Have Been Behind Deadly Bronx Stabbing.

‘When the cops arrived, the perpetrator tried to claim that it was her child that was there, saying that she gave birth at the time of the struggle.’ A young Bronx woman who was desperate to have a child yesterday slit the throat of a nine months’ pregnant woman, carved the live baby out of her belly and then maniacally proclaimed that she had just given birth, sources told The Post. “It’s my baby!” Ashley Wade allegedly insisted to cops arriving at the blood-soaked scene, with the placenta and umbilical cord from the gutted woman lying on the floor.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A woman is dead after being stabbed multiple times in the Bronx Friday afternoon, and questions were mounting hours later about a newborn baby who was found alive at the scene. The police officers were called to Wade’s home in the Wakefield section at around 2:20 p.m. by her boyfriend, who had walked in on the aftermath of the grisly slaying. Inside a two-family home nearby, her 22-year-old mother lay on the floor in a pool of blood, fatally stabbed several times in her torso and neck, the authorities said.

Due to severe trauma to the dead woman’s body, police could not determine whether she was pregnant and were awaiting results from the New York City Medical Examiner’s office, sources told CBS2. Another woman was handcuffed across the street, screaming that she was the baby’s mother, according to a city official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the investigation was continuing.

For hours on Friday night, investigators were trying to rule out that woman’s claim, taking blood samples to determine with certainty who had given birth in the middle of a bloody scene. Police were awaiting a search warrant to examine the suspect’s body and determine if she had the baby, sources said. “I seen when they were wheeling her out and they had the blanket over her,” said neighbor Diana Rivera. “And when they wheeled her inside the ambulance, that’s when he started giving her CPR.” “We was out here for a while before the ambulance took the lady out of the home, and then they had another lady handcuffed, and then afterwards, they put her in an ambulance and they went off,” said neighbor Vivette Williams. The suspect’s boyfriend was also being questioned by the police, Councilman King added, though it was not clear whether he was there when the stabbing occurred. A woman who lived next door to the pregnant woman and gave her name only as Michelle said she saw two women emerge from the home on Friday night: one in handcuffs, and the other covered in a white sheet.
