State Dept. warns citizens to be alert to travel risks associated with terrorism.

A worldwide travel alert was issued Monday by the US State Department, warning American citizens of “increased terrorist threats” around the globe as the holidays approach. “Current information suggests that [ISIS] Al- Qaeda, Boko Haram and other terrorist groups continue to plan terrorist attacks in multiple regions,” the State Department cautioned on its Web site. The department said information suggested that terrorist groups including the Islamic State, al-Qaeda and Boko Haram are continuing to plan attacks in several regions.

In the past year, there have been multiple attacks in France, Nigeria, Denmark, Turkey, and Mali.’ ‘Be aware of immediate surroundings and avoid large crowds or crowded places. U.S. authorities said the likelihood of terror attacks will continue as members of IS return from Syria and Iraq, and other individuals not affiliated with terror groups engage in violence on their own. Particular caution was urged during the holiday season and at holiday events In addition, it said, Americans should monitor media and local information sources and adjust their plans accordingly.
