Ex-Lions Player Cameron Sutton Enters Diversion Program amid Domestic Violence Charge

Court records from Hillsborough County, Florida, indicated that former Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cameron Sutton entered a pretrial diversion program to resolve the misdemeanor battery charge he is facing, per a Wednesday report from ESPN.

The batterers’ intervention program for the domestic violence case calls for Sutton to undergo a mental health evaluation.

He also is not allowed to possess weapons or contact the victim.

According to ESPN, the 28-year-old entered the program on April 8, which was just more than a week after he turned himself in to police. Law enforcement issued a warrant for his arrest on March 7 and was unable to locate him until he turned himself in on March 31.

Detroit responded to the arrest warrant by releasing him on March 21 in a move that Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk noted voided his $10.5 million in guaranteed salary for the upcoming campaign.

The 2023 season was Sutton’s first and only one with the Lions after he played the first six years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
